PHILIPPA DAVIES - Flautist

Since her celebrated performance of Mozart's Concerto in D major at the BBC Proms in 1988, Philippa is known internationally as one of the finest flautists currently performing; a' first-rate virtuoso' with 'exceptional eloquence'.

She has given many concerto performances and recordings with orchestras in the UK, Europe and North and South America.

She was flautist with the Fires of London, Albion Ensemble, principal flute with the London Mozart Players and now is a member of the Nash Ensemble and London Winds. She has a duo with Jan Willem Nelleke (piano) Maggie Cole (harpsichord) and regularly plays guest principal flute with the main London orchestras.

There are many recordings to her name; including all the Mozart Concertos and Quartets, Bach Flute Sonatas with Maggie Cole, Poulenc, flute music by William Alwyn and last year marked the release on Signum of the new CD of Paul Reade's Flute Concerto and the Victorian Kitchen Garden Suite with the English Chamber Orchestra. 

Philippa’s commitment to contemporary music has attracted commissions and dedications from leading composers; Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Jonathan Harvey, Jan Willem Nelleke ,Paul Reade, Robert Saxton and Giles Swayne

Philippa is a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music, London and every summer runs an international flute course in France. 

This season she is performing in France and Holland, giving recitals and masterclasses in UK and Europe.
